As car manufacturers start to look with fresh eyes at smaller, cheaper cars, reports from Germany confirm that Mercedes is close to committing to the SLA, a small Roadster to be based on the next generation A-Class platform. The original SLA concept was shown at Detroit in 2000, and aimed to slot in beneath the SLK. But at that time Mercedes didn’t have a suitable platform on which to base the car, and the project was shelved.

The Mazda MX-5 20th Anniversary Edition is launching at the Geneva Motor Show in March. But if you come to Cars UK regularly you will now be asking yourself “Didn’t that get launched last year?” And the answer is yes – we reported on the MX-5 20th at the time – but only in Japan for the JDM. At the time we reckoned it would take a few months to reach the UK and Europe.
Honda CR-V Concept previews the next generation CR-V
Update: Honda has been in touch to say that the new, fourth-generation CR-V will go on sale in the U.S. by the end of 2011, and in Europe in Autumn 2012. The Honda CR-V is a bit of an odd beast, probably because it looks for all the world like the forerunner to all the butch lifestyle SUVs that now proliferate our car landscape, and yet it seems to have no pretensions to be one.
